RULES:
BlastBall!® provides an ideal entry level of play for young BOYS and GIRLS who will go on to other advanced levels of the game. BlastBall!® is meant to put FUN into the game of Baseball. It is designed to generate fast-paced action, provide recreation and exercise, create enthusiasm.
BlastBall!® teaches all five basic fundamentals of baseball and softball
hitting, throwing, catching, running and fielding. It is also just a ton of fun with fast and continuous action and simple rules.
Age Requirement for BlastBall!®: Must be 4 years old by April 30. Three (3) year olds will not be allowed to participate. Grandfather Clause: If a 4 year old played teeball in Fall 2007, they will not be required to play BlastBall and can play Teeball in Spring 2008 even if they will not turn 5. However, these new age requirements will take effect in Spring 2008 and Fall 2008.
BLASTBALL will be played with 7 to 8 players per team although the game can be played with fewer players if a team is missing some members. Each team is required to have 1 Head Coach and 1 Assistant Coach.
The defensive players take an infield or outfield position marked by a square for each position.
A BlastBall is placed on the BlastTee and the first batter hits the ball and runs to the BlastBase. If the batter reaches the Base before a defensive player either catches the BlastBall in the air (an automatic out) or fields it and yells "BLAST ", he scores a run.
The BlastBase is audible, emitting a loud "H O N K " whenever the runner stomps on the
base. When fielded, the defensive player then throws the ball to the home plate coach.
If the ball is caught or fielded and "BLAST "is yelled before the runner gets to the BlastBase, then the runner does not score a run.. It's just that simple!
Each team bats the entire line up for each half inning. In the 2nd inning, the line up must be reveresed. Each game consists of 2 innings, with no time constraint.
We do not keep score at this level. We do not require umpires at this level.
Gloves are not needed because of the softness and size of the Ball, but are optional. Optional gloves must be Tball gloves.
While players will not get hurt by the ball, helmets must be worn to get players used to playing with a helmet in future years.
One base will be added every 2nd Saturday of the season until teams play with 4 bases. Every player will be encouraged to run all the bases but only 1st base will be a honking Blast Base.
PRACTICES/GAMES:
Teams will practice once a week on an assigned practice field behind the Field 2 temporary fence.
Teams will play one game every Saturday on Field 2 - regular Teeball field. Home and Visitor will be assigned to each team for each game. Each team will play 8 games. Rainout games may be scheduled for Sunday afternoons.
UNIFORMS:
All players must wear team baseball cap and team t-shirt during all games. Cleats are optional.
Sponsorship money of $100 will be required for each team for advertising on the back of the team shirt.
EQUIPMENT:
All equipment for Blast-Ball will be furnished to the team and coach by SSL. The coach is
responsible for the care and upkeep of the equipment. Coaches prior to the start of the season
will pick-up and after the season return the Blast-Ball equipment each season.
BlastBall equipment consists of a Blast foam Ball, Blast foam-covered Bat, Blast Tee, a Blast Honking Base, 3 Helmets and 2 rubber bases in a SSL Equipment bag.
Gloves are not required for the players but are optional. If a player wears a glove, it must be a teeball glove.
Rules:
1. Each Blast-Ball team must have at least 2 coaches on the field of play at all times. On offense, one coach at the tee and one coach at first base. On defense, one coach in the infield and one coach in the outfield. Each team is responsible for assigning one parent to be in charge of the kids in the batting line up.
2. Each team will bat its entire roster in each inning one complete time, which will constitute a half inning of play. Each turn at bat the batting order will be reversed. (For example: if a player bats last in the 1st inning he/she will bat first in the next inning).
3. When at bat, the object is to hit a fair ball, reach the base and sound the horn before the defensive team fields the ball, holds it above their head and yells Blast. Each batter will return to their bench after running the base(s). ***When other bases are added, the runner may only advance one base.
4. Each batter will get four (4) swings off the tee.
5. When on defense, all players will play a defensive position at least 30 feet from home plate. Each position will be marked by a square. Players may use both hands to field a ball. No player shall play catcher.
6. The home team will be responsible for setting up the field for the game (marking the 10 foot foul line, marking the defensive position squares, replacing 1st base with the Blast Base, removing 2nd and 3rd base, chalking the field).
7. Coaches will also serve as umpires while on the field.
8. After each play is completed, players must throw the ball to the Home Plate coach.
9. One base will be added every 2nd Saturday of the season until teams play with 4 bases.
10. Every player will be encouraged to run all the bases but only 1st base will be a Blast Base.
